Friends of Unity January Blog Hop

Welcome back to another blog hop of the Friends of Unity group. We are starting off 2021 (it’s finally here, thank goodness!), with a Black and White theme, always a challenge. As a reminder, to be eligible to win Unity stamps, you must leave a comment on each blog in the hop!

As a matter of fact, I’d like to announce my winner from last month! Congratulations,

Becca Yahrling!

Please PM me with your address and I’ll get out your kit!

So this month, I have 2 ideas to share! First, I used the Array of Fall kit and December 2020’s Uniquely Unity kit, Take a Break, to construct the first card. I white embossed the flower array onto black card stock. I then re-stamped it using grey archival ink on watercolor paper and watercolored several flowers. I fussy cut those out and mounted them using foam tape on the embossed flowers. I black embossed the sentiment on white card stock. I backed that with black paper, cut holes on the corner and threaded striped twine through the holes, attaching in the back. To finish, I just added back crystals and white pearls.

I made a large tag for the second idea. I used the December 2020 SMAK kit, New Year, New Chapter... so sad it’s going away. The heart in this kit is beautiful and massive. I took a black tag and used a roller haphazardly to add a glossy white acrylic paint to it. I then grabbed some stencils and first using an alcohol wipe removed the paint behind the stencil. I then used the stencils again and the black paint to add darker impressions. Finally, I black embossed the large heart. I proceeded to play with Posca pens adding outlines and lightening areas. Finally, I white embossed hearts from the kit all over. I black embossed the sentiment on the bottom and just stamped the one on the top, outlining both afterwards. I darkened the tag edges, added crystal hearts, ribbons and twine, and metal pieces. I’m not as confidant about this one, but I think the ideas have merit.

Thank you for stopping by and remember to comment before you leave! You should have come from:

  27. Very cool!!! I miss having a group to make cards with, I'd learn so much!!! I used to take lessons at a local rubber stamp store, but, like so many other stores, that closed eleven years ago!!! I do go to a Rubber Stamp Event twice a year except for 2020, because of Covid. They have wonderful make-and-takes and demos. I learn best hands-on. I love what you did with your cards!!! I'll have to try it! Hopefully, it will come out as neat as yours!!!
